Materials You’ll Need
Before you start, gather the following items:
- Peppermint essential oil (100% pure for the best effect)
- Water (preferably distilled)
- Spray bottle (a small to medium-sized bottle works best)
- Cotton balls (optional but useful for targeting specific areas)
- White vinegar (optional for added cleaning power)
How to Mix Peppermint Oil Spray
Here is a simple recipe to create your own peppermint oil spray:
- Fill the spray bottle halfway with water: Using distilled water is preferable as it doesn’t contain impurities that could affect the effectiveness of the solution.
- Add 10-15 drops of peppermint oil: For a strong enough deterrent, you will need about 10-15 drops of pure peppermint essential oil per 250 ml (8 oz) of water.
- Optional: Add a tablespoon of white vinegar: This is optional but can boost the mixture’s cleaning power, which is helpful if you’re using the spray in areas prone to dirt or food residues.
- Shake well: Before each use, make sure to shake the spray bottle thoroughly to mix the oil and water, as essential oils tend to separate from water over time.
