3. Cleaning and Heat Treatment
One of the most effective ways to eliminate bed bugs is through heat. These pests are highly susceptible to high temperatures, making heat treatment a powerful tool in eradicating them.
- Wash Bedding and Clothing: Wash all bedding, curtains, and clothes in hot water (at least 60°C/140°F) and dry them on the highest heat setting for at least 30 minutes. The heat will kill bed bugs and their eggs.
- Steam Cleaning: Use a steam cleaner on your mattress, furniture, and carpets to kill bed bugs and their eggs hiding in seams and crevices. Make sure the steam temperature reaches at least 100°C (212°F).
- Freezing: For items that can’t be washed or steamed, freezing is another option. Place the items in a sealed plastic bag and store them in a freezer at -18°C (0°F) for at least four days to kill bed bugs.
